If you look at western countries, the biggest chunk of change is hanging on derivatives, real estate and investment papers (bonds, stocks). Tell me how productive for society is that? What is the value added of just sitting on a pile of money or property and just living off interest (and not just making a living, but growing assets faster than the economy)?. This is why the Chinese population's purchasing power is so great inside its territory. China being #1 economy on PPP already highlights this.
Betting and speculating are okay but shouldn't expect to get more compensated than real engineers or people actually making progress. That's what I think

I'm not hyping up Chinese EVs here. But seriously once you take a Chinese ev for a spin, you'll be blown away by how smart it is. Tesla's over there like they're missing out on all the fun. I mean, why aren't they doing this?
You roll up to the parking lot, and you can just jump out of the car. Then, your car is like a super - cool valet, zipping itself right into a parking spot all on its own. And you can just start yapping at it, and it'll do all sorts of functions. It's like having a super - obedient robot butler in your car.

So true, also customers' satisfaction, driving experience, after sales service are as important as profit for the Chinese EV brands.I have driven those EVs few months ago in Shenzhen ( xiaomi SU7, Avatr12 which i am considering buying in China when i move back next yr from Canada ) they were just OMG , the tech , comforts, parking system, Lidar system and almost everything they have thought of. Also I have noticed that all f the brands tried to include most of the comfort and tech in an reasonable price package unlike sorry to say German cars. My current Porsche Taycan and BMWi4 while great cars, but it was disturbing to have to spent so much in options in order to have a decent exp. Both had to have to added at least 20% of the full price of the car in order to have a decent spec. Most innovative driving tech, comfort, unique options were never part of the car.

This has been coming for 2 years. £50k Vauxhall - Do me a favour. I remember Elon Musk laughing at a BYD car. BYD now sell twice as many cars as Tesla.
@TheElectricOracleChannel
Absolutely, Gary! It's crazy how fast things have shifted. While Tesla still leads in pure EV sales, BYD's mix of EVs and hybrids has definitely pushed their overall numbers ahead. Do you think brands like Vauxhall can stay competitive with price tags like that, or is it just a matter of time before they get left behind?
@GaryStephens-d3x
I think there will be a lot of "Mergers" - Nissan were looking at a deal with Honda - Both have been left behind. As your video said - The BYD supply chain is the main strength of the business - this was planned years ago. The UK is starting to realise that the heritage brands are way too expensive. The MG4 64Kwh car is the perfect example. The first of many IMO
Great video BTW

I swapped my Toyota for a BYD Atto3 earlier this year on the recommendation of my son who works in the motor parts industry. Not only do I love my son I loved his recommendation and can’t wait for more BYD models coming onto the UK market .
Only one criticism the taxes are too high and dealerships too greedy . My Atto3 costs 15k in China but I had to pay 35k over here which is just not right . Even though the Toyota equivalent is 48k the tech inferior and less pleasing on the eye interior and exterior I just feel I shouldn’t be charged that much more than a Chinese consumer as to the UK .

I've always been a private owner of vans for their practicality and mainly like EV's for their relaxed drive from
using them at work. I'd like one of the new BEV Transits but don't fancy spending £60-70k on one.
After being aware of the BYD T3 van for years its finally available in the UK!
I managed to get one recently from a pre Registered almost mystical batch, 74 plate, delivery miles £12,995!!
I don't know if BYD were testing the UK market but they are now officially available to order new but for more money.

China is 10 years ahead of America/Europe. 20 years ahead of most developing countries and 50 years ahead of India.

This is shocking, I can't believe how many of these cars are on UK roads now

And Canada is going to charge 50% duty on Chinese EV. Speaking of cost of living crisis, Canada and US are in one, too. Gas prices rising, food prices rising.
@FAFORednickincell
Yes 100% not 50%
Just like the USA is levying a 100% tax on Chinese EVs
This is why Tesla does so well in North American markets there are almost no Chinese EV cars
@stevenbarrett7648
Shocked ? who exactly, you would have to be living under a rock for the past 5 years if you had not noticed the range of Chinese cars on the road, Volvo, Tesla, MG, BYD, Polestar, SAIC plus a raft of others and buses no doubt trains too.
The Japanese swept through the UK when our incumbent manufacturers were busy striking, now the Japanese are out and the Chinese are in. Cheaper, smarter, longer ranges, who on earth is going to buy an overpriced VW ID car with cr*p software and poor support when you can buy one of these well made motors from China.
@TheElectricOracleChannel
Thanks for your comment, Steven! You’d be surprised—some folks in the comments are genuinely shocked at how quickly Chinese brands have taken over the roads. It’s like history repeating itself with the Japanese market surge, but this time, it feels like the shift is happening even faster. Do you think legacy brands like VW can turn things around, or is it too little too late?
@stevenbarrett7648
I can see VW doing a British Leyland, selling their marque's to the Chinese like MG, Volvo etc, it's only a matter of time now, financially they are stuffed.
@CasperChicago
Well I'll be! I know Tesla is manufactured in China, but I did not think of it as a Chinese car. I really like your perspective. At first it was the Americans, then the Japanese and now it is China,...a new reality.

Another British driver here this is long overdue European brands are ripping the british consumers off for no good reason. It’s not normal for a bmw 3 series to cost 60k
@teemagict1175
Yo brother Des, I've said this to you before, IT'S over for the European auto maker's, The Chinese are completely different, The mindset isn't one of Greed, what they give you for the same price or better, is focused on satisfaction for the customer, Not just the pockets of the shareholders, All legacy auto maker's have one choice and one choice only, if they want ANY chance of survival they better think again, The day's of ripping us all OFF for decades with unreliable, poorly built, overpriced, & boring car's ARE Over...Des...
@derekr1113
What is not explained is how traditional manufacturers are in significant financial difficulty. Major brands (Nissan, Fiat, Alfa, Peugeot, Vauxhall) are about to go bust. The Chinese brands will likely buy the makers names to help the 'older' buyer feel more comfortable.
@steveong4738
Great video. I recently visited a Chinese EV showroom and close the door of one of the SUV, Geely Boyue. It reminded of the 1980 BMW E21 sound. Rock solid. That same day, I went to a BMW showroom and close the door of the new BMW iX1. I attempted a number of times to get the feel of the 1980 BMW E21 feel. Unfortunately, the sound resonate with the 1980 Toyota Corrolla! I believe buyers will be attracted to quality and value for money cars unless you are a wealthy buyer.
@marvinfok65
It is not an UK thing, it is a global thing now. People are queuing up to buy BYD's Shark 6 in Mexico & Brazil. BYD had been the best selling EV in ASEAN. Even in Japan, BYD had now climbed to the best selling EV! Yes in Japan. EV population in Japan is still very small, but it will grow and it will elbow out the Japanese EVs which were far behind the Chinese EVs unless the Japanese government is going to imposed a 100% tariffs. But don't forget the Chinese can also impose high tariffs on Japanese imports too. It is not going to help Japan as Japanese car sales globally will be hit very hard to Chinese cars.
@cchu319
There are only dozens to around a hundred human workers on the assembly line. The rest are assembled together by thousands of robots, robotic arms, monitored by those hundred to few dozens of human workers on the floor in their sections. Competitive edge because of “low labour costs” doesn’t exist in China anymore. China isn’t producing low quality goods anymore. They have moved away from that due to tech evolution, innovation and vertical integration. Now they are producing high quality goods at low cost.

I lived in south east Asia, these Chinese cars are brilliant and very cheap. They are much better than European, British and American cars. The EVs are millions miles ahead
@jameshind6644
It's not just the prices in China that are really good, here in Australia Byd cars are much cheaper than the UK. The seal excellence here is $67000 aud on the road which equates to around 35000 pounds. I believe the UK price is 45000 pounds.
@markdickson3820
For better or worse we’re not in eu, we should continue to sit out the imposition of tariffs the US and EU are imposing because it’ll only increase the costs of ev’s and it’s not like we have a domestic industry to keep alive (that decision was made decades ago) and Nissan isn’t worth supporting with tax money anymore nor ford etc. We can’t have every industry based in uk, and cars aren’t our thing because of battery availability, no mass market car brands etc so if we get cheaper Chinese cars because they out compete European/American cars then great. We don’t need to fight this trend, it’s not a fight worth having since we’re a service based economy.
@Bowerhill
The UK is also the only place in Europe where we are not talking about tariffs on Chinese EV's. This looks like it may change but the Chinese must be putting most of their effort into selling into the UK.
@glyngreen538
I’d like to buy a cheap Chinese EV van for my first ever vehicle in the UK. I don’t plan to ever drive ICE. China are the only country taking the energy transition seriously and good on them - I’d far rather support China than the US these days.
@tonyh7158
Thats why Toyota CEO said the reason they don't want to make EV and will focus on Hybrid is because they cannot make money on EV maintenance. They forgot they are not the only car company, customer has choice.
@kalebdaark100
It turns out that the prioritisation of extracting value for shareholders above everything else followed by western big business eventually filters though an economy until the majority of consumers can't afford or possibly don't want your product. Who knew?
@martincday007
Unless the UK makes a serious commitment to investing in manufacturing, it makes little difference where it sources its vehicles.
Imports from the EU or the US provide no direct benefit to the UK, so when discussing the need for traditional manufacturers to "wake up" to the threat posed by Chinese EVs, the concern is primarily for European manufacturers.
Had the UK remained in the EU, it would have had to consider the impact on the wider European market. However, outside the EU, the challenges that Chinese imports pose to German, French, and Italian manufacturers are not the UK's concern—unless a significant portion of the components come from the UK, which, to my knowledge, is not the case.
As for what remains of UK vehicle manufacturing, it largely focuses on niche markets, such as luxury and off-road vehicles so although a shot across the bow, less of a threat at the moment.

@derekr1113

@jameshind6644
It's not just the prices in China that are really good, here in Australia Byd cars are much cheaper than the UK. The seal excellence here is $67000 aud on the road which equates to around 35000 pounds. I believe the UK price is 45000 pounds.
@markdickson3820
@Bowerhill
The UK is also the only place in Europe where we are not talking about tariffs on Chinese EV's. This looks like it may change but the Chinese must be putting most of their effort into selling into the UK.
@glyngreen538
I’d like to buy a cheap Chinese EV van for my first ever vehicle in the UK. I don’t plan to ever drive ICE. China are the only country taking the energy transition seriously and good on them - I’d far rather support China than the US these days.
@tonyh7158
Thats why Toyota CEO said the reason they don't want to make EV and will focus on Hybrid is because they cannot make money on EV maintenance. They forgot they are not the only car company, customer has choice.

It turns out that the prioritisation of extracting value for shareholders above everything else followed by western big business eventually filters though an economy until the majority of consumers can't afford or possibly don't want your product. Who knew?
@martincday007
