Now why Indians use water. Contrary to the general belief that we are just flies n mosquitoes, we actually maintain excellent personal hygiene. I'm not talking civic sense that's for another day n we score a big negative there. So , we like to have all sides covered. Wash urself with water. Dry urself with toilet paper and then get going. For that matter , OSHA should issue universal guidelines n make this mandatory .

A lot of 5 star hotels in India , because they cater to westerners ( n may be are ashamed of the fact that westerners cant wrap their head aroudn the use of water) have done away with the concept of a bidet or water faucet , which is the most inconvenient n stupid thing to do.

never ever understood how the same 5 star will have a 'hand shower' through out the middle east but not in India...personally avoid those 5 stars which dont have a proper washing facility..

Currently, I live in the US and a few months back it was unthinkably disgusting for me as an Indian to wipe shit off my ass with paper after pooping. But later after coming here, I understood the logic behind them using toilet paper. Try to look at things from their point of view. In most of the western countries it gets bitterly cold during the peak of winter with sub zero temperatures and the water in the pipes either freezes or becomes ice cold, making it unfit for washing purposes. And that’s how the tradition of using paper for you know what started. And they don’t move around with stinking, unclean asses either as we may like to think! They shower properly and give their asses a good wash while bathing. In our country water has never been a problem and moreover, winters aren’t as cold as found in the West. And just as you have an issue with them wiping their asses with paper, they also find using our hands to wash the shit off our asses utterly gross (though we wash our hands with soap properly afterwards before eating or doing something else).

Very cold countries Water turns to Ice and so they use Toilet Paper. India Temperature are above 15 degrees even during Winter at most places so why not use water? We have to reduce cutting of Trees to make Paper.

The West has finally discovered how Indian commodes are better for the health! The Stanford modified Indian style is only half as effective as the original, but using Indian style commode one will hardly get arthritis in old age. I have witnessed >95 year olds feeling at ease only with Indian style, they simply hate the Western style.

The West has finally discovered how Indian commodes are better for the health! The Stanford modified Indian style is only half as effective as the original, but using Indian style commode one will hardly get arthritis in old age. I have witnessed >95 year olds feeling at ease only with Indian style, they simply hate the Western style.

I visited a factory in Italy to buy some photo processing machinery. I was surprised to see only Indian style toilets for the workers on the shop floor.

I had a tough time in the US without any washing facility in the toilet. Developed a rash in the backside.

You just needed a bottle of water in your toilet. I figured that out after day 1.
It works when there is no toilet shower or mug.
