I notice a lot of Asian males 30 to 40 look like they're early 20's still. Is it Asian genetics / what they eat? Or do a lot of asian males follow a basic skincare routine?

I've been watching a lot of Asian streamers lately in China / Korea and I noticed a lot of Males in the 30 to 40 ranges have really great skin and young faces, what do they do usually to take care of their skin? I see them eat a varity of food including mcdonalds and other things so I'm not so sure it's the food, are they following a skincare routine or is this just normal for asian genetics?

They look like they're in their 20s only to white people, other Asians can tell a young Asian vs older Asian with good skin cause we're used to the way Asians age.

LOL this! Us Asians can generally tell each other’s age ranges. There are just a couple exceptions that maybe look a LOT younger than their age, but even then it’s not that common. We can usually tell who are in their 20s, 30s or older, it’s just white people who seem to think we all look young. To us, white people don’t age well and look a lot older than we expect them to be

It swings the other way too, I always think white people are older than they are, even those who claim to look younger than their age. That's why I never bite those 'guess my age' questions cause I don't wanna be rude.

I avoid the "guess my age" as much as I can. when I cant I just do this.
If they look like they could be in their late 20s, early 30s. Say 24. If they look 30-40, just say 33.
40+ I just always say 42.

This is true but it’s also that we learn to look for other markers as well (weight, hair style, clothes, etc) to tell someone’s age. If people don’t conform to those things in their age group it can be harder to tell even for other Asians

Tbh I think a lot of white people are just shockingly bad at guessing ages... I don't know if I'm just super harsh, or if everyone else is just super generous. I'm a white person raised in a very white environment and even I can tell when an east asian person is obviously old with good skin. I see it all the time online but I'm always thinking 'that guys definitely looks 45... just a 45 year old with a good skincare routine...'

Lol same with black people. People will fawn over how young someone looks and I usually can guess their true age. Alot of white people say I look young but I honestly look my age when you factor in black genes and how we tend to look youthful.

Interesting. So there must be some bias going on. We're used to people who look like us aging at a certain pace so we apply that to others, and it's always surprising when the expectations don't match.

Genetics. Asians have more fat in their faces which gives off the youthful look
I would say for celebrities, it’s cosmetic surgeries that accentuate that look.

it's not just genetics, we just walk a lot and eat a lot of veg/fruits at home or our mom will kill us even from the afterlife. Culturally, if you dont take care of your own body, your parents get mad at you even more because you are their flesh n blood literally.
there's a lot of asian pressure lookism, it's like how NA and Asian starcraft leagues were different beasts. Except this is about how you look.
What western social media knows now as 'looksmaxxing' is something even more extreme that a lot of Asians have done for centuries, lol
on the bright side, our skincare stuff is p cheap so you can try that too!

Yea but you can’t eat your way to good genetics. I’m Asian American and other Asian Americans I know eat like shit, including my own brother. And they still have baby faces. Of course eating healthy helps but it’s not going to drastically change much

Taking care of your body bit is important! I’m black but have live in a mostly white community, when i tell you the amount of pushback i get on basic body care is crazy. Bathing every day, using a loofah or washcloth, moisturizing the entire body after, not just using shampoo but conditioner too, double cleansing, facial moisturizer, sunscreen, etc. they say is too much work! I get that you can’t beat genetics but they don’t even give themselves a fighting chance.

On the bright side, longer faces/more mature looking features usually age better, and you probably won’t get jowls as easily. I have a round face and I look bloated in photos now and I look fat in headshots while my body is underweight, and when I turn 60 I’m probably going to have horrible saggy jowls because I pretty much have no bones in my face.

Yeah, I was so surprised to see a sea of comments and yet not ONE mentioning this before me. It's like people got so used to seeing people with filters on they forgot they exist lol.

Oh, this! When traveling in Asia, I took a bunch of pics with my cousins. We're all in our 30s and 40s, and East/Southeast Asian. I was forbidden from posting any of the pics from my phone because I don't use filters. lol.
We don't look bad for our age, but we don't look like 20 year olds.

They're also really vain because of beauty expectations, and even the men probably maintain their skin

A lot of people are saying genetics... but in countries with fairer skin there is also a "sunscreen culture"

Especially Asia. They take sun protection to another level because in many Asian countries, lighter skin is the beauty standard. So you’ll see people using sunscreen as well as physical protection including umbrellas, wide brim hats etc.
Contrasted to much of North America, I think there had been a long standing desire to look tanned (thinking it looked healthier/you had money for vacation). My mom who’s German (very fair skin and blonde hair) would lay out in the sun covered in oil (eek). I’m hopeful at the changes I see in younger generations now who seem to take skin protection more seriously.

I'm an American living in Asia and everyone (at least where I am) wears hoodies/jackets in 100 degree weather to protect their skin... not necessarily from skin cancer but from getting tan. The women especially act like vampires, they'll wear masks that cover their entire faces with holes for the eyes. They'll walk in the shade and if there's an area without shade, they'll literally pull their shirt over their head and run to the nearest shaded area.
The men don't seem to care as much but most of them will still cover up. I've noticed with the Grab drivers (similar to Uber) the men will have young looking faces but they'll have super wrinkly 70 year old looking hands.

Definitely genetics. My husband is turning 50 this year and he has NO gray hair and amazing skin. He doesn’t have any skincare routine. (I am so jealous) His coworkers all thought he was in his 30’s when they met him.

It's hugely genetics and culture but I wanted to mention something else that is also involved as someone who studies linguistics. Some languages cause less facial movement when you speak. Some languages like English or Spanish require a LOT of facial movements whereas tonal languages like Korean or Chinese cause fewer movements and can result in fewer wrinkles from daily movement. Also certain cultures or groups are thought to display emotions with their faces in a more obvious way so that adds to the overall use of muscles and appearance of static wrinkles.
