In such a nightmare scenario every single life is precious beyond value. China, India and the Russia for certain. But, it gets complicated. For example, do you count England as a separate country, or does all of Great Britain count? Finland because I believe this is how every country should be run. Ordinance, low crime, worker rights and protections, emphasis to the wellbeing, great education and healthcare etc. It ranks highest in happiness in comparison to other Scandinavian countries.

Mexico because this is where the fun and magic is at. It’s one of the most biodiverse countries, has one of the best cuisines and beaches, and it’s one of my favorite cultures and traditions. Mexicans are another breed, their humor is different, they view life different, they find humor over the tiniest thing, they're the easiest country to make friends as an expat and is also one of the most hospitable and welcoming countries in the world. Everyone can learn something from Mexico. If Finland annexed it and got rid of the corruption, crime and crooked politicians it would definitely be one of the best countries.

I’m tempted to say Australia as I think it’s among the most ethnically diverse countries in the world and I suspect the outright top in the industrialised world, but there might be three or more better candidates due to being nearly as diverse and with much bigger populations. But Australia has 25 million people, mostly reasonably well educated and trained in everything from farming to pharmacology, a quarter of whom were born elsewhere and about the same number again have at least one foreign born parent.

I’m guessing (fairly wildly) that perhaps 200–300 million people is around the level you’d want to preserve enough technical and as much cultural knowledge as you can. If you felt it important to include a fair representation of first peoples as well as that then off the top of my head I’d probably suggest Australia, Brazil and Canada, and it’d be very close to 300 million people.

So the world-wide population is now 1,983,726,118 plus a couple millions people worth of tourists, illegal immigrants, foreign students, etc. So I’ll put the final population estimate at 2 billion. Thats a steep drop from 7.62 billion. About 5.62 billion are now dead. Probably because of something bad.

Most of the world is now Chinese with significant White, Japanese, Filipino and Black populations. I imagine that there are also at least a couple million Indians and Nigerians due to how mobile the business and technical experts in those nations tend to be.
