British driver here, who is totally UNshocked. The Chinese are simply doing what the Japanese did in the 1970s and 80s. They came along with appealing and affordable vehicles and people are buying them.
@jomukuk1950
They started with appalling and unreliable vehicles, I remember them well........Betcha none of the Chinese go over 100K
@discoverkenya
@jomukuk1950 what are you willing to bet? And are we still having these same convos? BYD alone have fleets of EV cabs in China and Brazil and doing just fine. Not to mention Thailand is running on majority Chinese EVs and doing just fine.

There seem to be a lot of youngsters on this thread. I remember in 1975 getting advertising leaflets through my door for a car just called the Pony, I couldn't figure out what brand it was (Hyundai) and carried on driving my old Singer Vogue. Drivers of foreign cars then still got accusations of disloyalty and lack of patriotism, and the usual predictions that these weird cars would fall apart. Then the facts spoke for themselves, lower prices, more features, better reliability, and the writing was on the wall for the British car industry.
Now with EVs there is a real drag on the market by the constant stream of negative stories appearing in the media and on social media about the cars, the batteries, the technology, etc, etc. This is a rerun of what is known as 'The Tobacco playbook', where the tobacco industry went to war on those who dared to say smoking was killing people. Of course that risks putting off traditional manufacturers who will defend their legacy business, but it's just what the new (almost all Chinese) players want - an open goal...
From just 34 retail sites to 173 in a single year, this isn't just market growth - it's a complete transformation of Britain's automotive landscape.
In this comprehensive analysis, we're examining how Chinese EVs are reshaping the UK market through vertical integration, aggressive pricing, and strategic expansion. We'll explore why the number of sub-£30,000 EVs has tripled to 29 models, with most growth coming from Chinese manufacturers.
@pincermovement72
To be fair I don’t or have ever wanted an EV, the range anxiety, spontaneous combustion and an hour at a recharge point don’t do it for me. However as a consumer I must buy the cheapest product that offers what I want if it offers comparable reliability. Chinese products in my opinion are improving but are not there yet. My other concern is innovation which seems only a white persons thing , yes East Asians will improve an established product but rarely seem to have the inventiveness for new technology. This is not meant to be a racist comment just an observation. China advocates only for the Chinese which if Chinese I would support , perhaps western countries leaders instead of being nice will realise finally that the world is competitive and stop giving their money and secrets away , they by their own greed and stupidity caused China to industrialise , now the people in the west make nothing or even have those well paying jobs that sustained us a good life.
@toneschofield4609
Much like the Japanese motorcycles that hit these shores in early 1970s. The big engine Honda and Kawasaki bikes that blew our leaky, unreliable machines off the road. Although to be fair, we now build amazing bikes here.
@grahamjohnson4702
@pincermovement72 This thing about spontaneous combustion is just a news paper selling story as the fact is more ICE cars spontaneously combust in the world each year than EV vehicles and buses and China has been selling EV's for years and all the major cities have rules that only vehicles for passenger transport can be electric in the city center and surrounds and you don't hear about them going up in flames. In China I think it was they had six EV fires in the year and over 20 ICE cars in the whole country.
@cupidstunt1975
cheaper, better tech, better quality, better styling, better batteries. Its no contest I'm afraid. The Chinese are wiping the floor with legacy auto.
@TheElectricOracleChannel
You’re not wrong, mate. The pace at which Chinese automakers are pushing out innovative designs with solid tech and competitive pricing is seriously impressive. It’s definitely putting pressure on legacy brands to step up their game.
Do you think the big names like VW, Ford, or even Tesla will catch up, or is this shift towards Chinese dominance in the EV market here to stay?
@Lost_Johnny
As a Brit living in China, this video is really interesting. Glad to see the UK government has done something right -- not imposing EU level import taxes on Chinese EVs.
@charlesjay8818
Easy for the UK government not to impose tariffs as the UK has NO car industry unlike Germany or France. Jaguar Land Rover owned by the Indians, Lotus/MG owned by the Chinese, RR/Mini owned by BMW, Bentley owned by VW hahahaha
@Jomo-x6n
@charlesjay8818 What are you talking about? UK car brands owned by foreign car manufacturers are still mainly made in the UK with UK workers. Foreign car manufacturers have to pay corporation tax just like any other companies in the UK. Surely the influx of cheap Chinese EVs into the UK will have an impact on cars made in the UK. The reason the British Government do not impose tariffs on Chinese EVs is because it's the right thing to do in the spirit of free enterprise as that benefits the British people and the environment. What Trump did will hurt the American people in the end. China do not pay the tariffs, the American consumers do.
@SigFigNewton
Will be an incremental boost to the UK economy. All of the people saving a lot of money on their auto purchase now have spending money for local businesses.
@Rubicon365
We in south east Asia love Chinese EVs.. affordable, high tech and sleek. What more do you want?

@victoriaguthrie8772
Last Oct I bought an MG 4 for 15,600 of your UK pounds here in Australia. In a little over 3 months I have paid nothing for power as I charge it through my solar. Also I am 78 years old have not had this much fun since I was at Woodstock!
@ptssw5395
MG elsewhere in non Western countries is considered of lower quality. If MG already satisfied you Westerners, other Chinese brands will shock you.
@toneschofield4609
I still drive an 03 plate MG Sports, but will consider upgrading to EV once the price of new models have come right down and batterys improved in range, charging time and safety, which Chinese EVs appear to be.
@ZenoGotWet
Love it
I have a Red Atto 3. When I bought it, everyone said " never heard of BYD" and I replied " Everyone will know who they are are in 6 months". And now my car is in every EV yt channel.
@StephenSmith-ge1qf
I can buy a Chinese made car for a good price, with a 7 year guarantee. Why would I pay far more for something inferior.
@TheVMYak
Was in China recently. When you see how much things really cost at the source of most of the worlds production - then realise just how we are being ripped off. High quality goods sold in high quality stores at 20% of what we pay here.
@TheElectricOracleChannel
It’s wild seeing that firsthand, right? The price differences can be shocking, especially when you know the quality is just as good—if not better. Do you think more people would lean toward brands like BYD if they realised how much of a markup we're paying here?
@cheungchingtong
This is typically why so many ppl outside of China keep thinking Made-in-China = bad quality. It is not bad quality, it is the orders came from your country demand low quality, so the importers could earn loads of profits. This is how extreme capitalism brings you. We could for example buy a very good quality TV in China which cost 500,whileifyouwanttobuythesameoneintheUS,itmighteasilycostsyou1500 - $2000 if not more, because the US government wants a share from it by tariff, and the capitalists want a big share from it by staggering up the price.
@marvinfok65
@TheElectricOracleChannel
Yeah, many Chinese reputable brands are so much better in quality. My gf bought a pair of Chinese brand sneakers known as Erke in Thailand which is really cheap. I bought myself a pair of Adidas sneakers. We wore them very frequently and my Adidas was all torn up from the inside after a year but my gf was still in almost perfect condition! My gf was was shock too that it held up so well. My gf bought it because of the color of the sneaker and thought that she would throw them away after a month or 2. But it looks like they are going to last for quite a while!
@lifeofmichaely3556
Unfortunately a lot of blinded racist people would not agree with that and that is OK as they can step aside and have no idea what they are missing. I believe Chinese EVs are priced fairly due to its ethical thinking ( offering as much options, comfort, tech to its customers and accessibility is the key ) and of course internal competitions.
@Andrew-rc3vh
The general population in China is highly educated in STEM subjects. You can clearly see this if you watch a Chinese science documentary for their broadcast TV. It's not just for those who design the cars, but the average consumer in China is smart and can understand the technology, so marketing propaganda does not cut it over there. It's the spec that counts. The demand in the Chinese consumer market is for high tech products. In fact the Brits need to get to know the Chinese to see how backward they are in comparison, which in turn will encourage them to get more into science and stuff. We do not want to become a nationwide museum. Competition is good. Thank goodness we are out of the EU so we can maintain free trade with China.
@stephsoltesz6731
You are quite correct, Education is a Very High Priority within China and hence why they paid for & sent tremendous amounts of students out worldwide to study & learn as mush as possible and to come back with the knowledge to grow the Industries & Nation as a whole.
I have been working with Chinese Busineses since 1990 and have several "good relationships" with many people there and the changes that have happened at Break Neck Record speed is literally gobsmacking and NOTHING like anyone outside can even imagine, let alone comprehend.
Just look at the Cost Comparison sites and compare costs of Living.
1 Nice NEW 1 bedroom apartment in Shenzhen, all in utilities etc is +/- $400 USD per month which is 1/4 the price here in Ottawa Ontario Canada (+ utilities etc)! Food & Clothing etc is FAR Cheaper than anywhere else as well. Schooling is FREE even to university as is Healthcare. No homeless as everyone has a home. Even the last of the villages left behind during the "Great Rebirth" are all getting attention and wow...
@FabioCapela
If I remember correctly, roughly 90% of Chinese Millennials own a home.
A very big part of the reason, of course, is that the Chinese government won't allow speculation to drive up housing prices, and they don't care if they need to bankrupt an Evergrande or two to achieve that. Which, mind, I consider a positive, as it hinders attempts by the rich to make money on housing while making it much easier for the common people to afford houses.

@TheVMYak
Was in China recently. When you see how much things really cost at the source of most of the worlds production - then realise just how we are being ripped off. High quality goods sold in high quality stores at 20% of what we pay here.
@TheElectricOracleChannel
It’s wild seeing that firsthand, right? The price differences can be shocking, especially when you know the quality is just as good—if not better. Do you think more people would lean toward brands like BYD if they realised how much of a markup we're paying here?
@cheungchingtong

@FabioCapela
